I come off the dusty and sweltering hot street in the middle of the summertime to find my organic treasures at the traditional market. These lovely treasures are flowers from the market at Namdaemun 남대문시장. They are the reflection of grace and beauty in Korean culture and many cultures worldwide as well. Making the space surrounding them pleasant, fragrant, and bringing simple joy; no wonder Korean art is adorned with flowers.
If you are considering whether choosing your own flowers is worth the trip, it most certainly is a fun experience! It combines the thrill of finding a good bargain with enjoying the harmony of fresh horticulture brought straight from the farms. Another benefit is supporting the local economy and local growers.
As one who has shopped wholesale flower markets back in the States and compared prices at large membership stores, please rest assured that the flowers at Namdaemun Market are some of the best prices you will ever find on the peninsula! I found the main flower (Peony), greenery (Eucalyptus), and filler flower (Limonium) for a large arrangement for only 11,000 ₩. I don’t need to tell you flower enthusiasts what a bargain that is! Namdaemum has fresh-cut flowers, arrangements for sale, potted plants, and artificial flowers. Please give it a try yourself and enjoy the calming nature of working with flowers.

Each floor has something unique to offer shoppers!
Jongo Flower Market
For even more selections, if you would like to try a variety of unusual potted plants, exotic orchids, and succulents in many sizes, make your way to Jongo Flower Market. There I found a small succulent with vibrant colors I have never seen back in the States for only 3,000 ₩.
Directions: From the Dongdaemun Station on line 4, exit 10 and walk for about 5 minutes until you see the Flower Market sign.
